A Word with Alex Aguirre
What made you choose a career in personal injury law?
My heart was not into corporate law or defending insurance companies. On many occasions, I was told to take certain positions consistent with profit-making motives, and not necessarily the truth. In personal injury law, I can actually help people.
In your opinion, what sets your firm apart from other firms in the area?
Attention to detail and continuous client contact. I make myself available to clients at any time. We tell our new clients right away that if they want to visit with me, all they have to do is call and make an appointment. We have maintained this practice since day one.
What steps do you take to prepare for a difficult case?
We over-prepare. Based on experience, we can anticipate the positions that will be made by the other side at the onset of a case. We do this in the discovery process so we can meticulously elicit the evidence we will need to address these legal and factual positions.
How do you view your role in the attorney-client relationship?
I take it very seriously. This is a big reason why I make myself available to my clients. Yes, I rely on my staff to manage the day to day tasks of a case, but when it is all said and done, I represent my client and am fully aware of their case at all times. I am not their attorney in name only, I actually touch and manage their case.
How does your experience in the personal injury field benefit your clients?
I will go to trial when necessary. Not many lawyers can say that nowadays since cases rarely go to trial. When I take on a new case, I do so under the presumption that it is going to trial. I cannot assume that the defendant will eventually settle.
Because of this, I take an aggressive approach at the onset. I obtain fair and just settlement for my clients because insurance companies and defendants know that I will go all the way to defend their rights and entitlements if necessary.
Are there specific personal injury cases you frequently handle?
I enjoy taking on all kinds of injury claims for my clients, but I frequently handle wrongful death, car accidents, truck accidents, and bike accidents, along with slip and fall injury claims and workplace injuries.
In your opinion, what is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I love fighting for my clients. Through my work, I am able to give a voice to those who otherwise would not have one.
What advice do you most often give your clients?
Be patient. Many other lawyers will rush into unfair settlements just to move onto the next case. Here, we aggressively push our cases in a time efficient manner, but will not rush into any settlement if it is not for a fair and just amount.
